International Conference on Cyberlaw, Cybercrime & Cybersecurity 2017

The International Conference on #Cyber Law #Cyber Crime & #Cyber Security 2017, was organized on 16th & 17th November, 2017 at New Delhi, India.

The International Conference on Cyberlaw, Cybercrime & Cybersecurity was inaugurated by Hon’ble The Chief Justice of India Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dipak Misra on 15th November, 2017 at New Delhi. 

Objectives

The objectives of the International Conference on Cyberlaw, Cybercrime & Cybersecurity are as follows:-

  • The International Conference on Cyberlaw, Cybercrime & Cybersecurity will look at the emerging legal, policy and regulatory issues pertaining to cyberspace and cybercrimes.
  • To identify the emerging Cyberlaw, Cybercrime & Cybersecurity trends and jurisprudence impacting cyberspace in today’s scenario.
  • To create far more awareness about the newly emerging kinds of cybercrimes that are impacting all stakeholders in the digital and mobile ecosystem.
  • To identify the areas in cybercrimes where Cyberlaw needs to be further evolved so as to meet with the expectations and needs of the relevant stakeholders of the digital and mobile ecosystem.
  • To work in the direction of creating an international network of cybercrimes and cyber-legal professionals which could then be an important voice in the further development of Cyberlaw, Cybercrime & Cybersecurity jurisprudence across the world.
  • Cybercrimes are now beginning to impact corporates in their new avatar.
  • What are the major international Cyberlaw, Cybercrime & Cybersecurity trends?
  • What kind of new manifestations of cybercrimes are beginning to emerge that corporates need to be careful of?
  • What international best practices need to be kept in mind by corporates for protecting themselves from being victims of Cybercrimes?
  • What kind of overall anti-Cybercrime strategies do corporates need to have in place?

These and a variety of other issues were addressed in the International Conference on Cyberlaw, Cybercrime & Cybersecurity.

While inaugurating the Conference, Hon’ble The Chief Justice of India Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dipak Misra stressed upon the need for concentrating on emerging legal, policy and regulatory issues concerning cyberspace and the need for all stakeholders including lawmakers and judiciary to be more aware about the nuances of emerging cyber technologies.

Justice Misra, who inaugurated the ‘International Conference on Cyberlaw, Cybercrime and Cybersecurity’, said that while considering the formation of an international committee for cybersecurity, the Indian concept of constitutional sovereignty cannot be diluted.

He further highlighted the growing necessity for the judiciary to be up-to-date with the latest trends concerning cyberspace as the said issues would be coming before the judiciary for adjudication in the coming times.

He further complimented the conference organizers for organizing world class International Conference which helps the comity of nations to identify and address the emerging legal, policy and regulatory issues concerning cyberspace.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the conference, Mr. Steven Wilson, Head, EUROPOL Cybercrime Centre further complimented India for its thought leadership in organizing the International Conference on Cyberlaw, Cybercrime & Cybersecurity. He further highlighted the practical dangers that cyber criminals are presenting to states and other stakeholders across the world and how there is a need for coordinated international approach to deal with emerging challenges concerning cybercrimes and the darknet. He specifically pointed out the misuse of Internet of Things by cyber criminals as also the increased use of the darknet and increasing cyber security breaches as the new reality of today. Mr. Wilson further called upon all stakeholders to work together to deal with deadly challenges being presented by cyber criminals and hackers across the world.

The Conference also addressed by its Conference Director Pavan Duggal, Advocate, Supreme Court of India and internationally renowned expert and authority on Cyberlaw and Cybersecurity.  Pavan Duggal highlighted the very rapidly evolving yet changing landscape concerning Cyberlaw in the digital ecosystem and the need for lawmakers and all stakeholders to deal with the legal and policy issues concerning cyberspace in a more effective, holistic and pragmatic manner. He further highlighted the need for nations to come up with dedicated cyber security legislations to deal with increased breaches of cyber security as also emphasized the need for more international work to be done on attribution of cyber acts.  He further pointed out about the significance of cyber sovereignty and how different nations are adopting different approaches to protect and preserve their cyber security.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Kurian Joseph, Judge Supreme Court of India chaired the extremely interesting session on Cybercrime, which came up with interesting recommendations on how to tackle with the emerging challenges of cybercrime in today’s scenario.

The Valedictory Session of the Conference was addressed by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Madan B. Lokur, Judge, Supreme Court of India, who complimented the conference for its remarkable achievement in contributing to the evolving jurisprudence on Cyberlaw, Cybercrime & Cybersecurity. He further complimented the deliberations done in the said discussions and called upon much more comprehensive discussions, debates and analysis in the coming times.  Hon’ble Ms. Justice Gita Mittal, Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court also addressed the valedictory session and  called upon the need for extensive judicial trainings and capacity building initiatives for the judiciary.

The Conference was organized on a massive scale. The Conference had dozens of distinct sessions with more than 150 speakers across the world.

The International Conference on Cyberlaw, Cybercrime & Cyber Security 2017 aimed to examine and analyze the emerging Cyberlaw, Cybercrime and Cybersecurity trends of today’s times. The International Conference was attended by various international delegates and speakers as also representatives from the national Diaspora representing the stakeholders in the digital ecosystem and alive web.

These include representatives from the Central Government & State Governments, various Ministries, Law Enforcement Agencies, Police, Business, Information Technology, Corporate Sector, Academicians, Scholars, Service Providers, International Organizations and distinguished thought leaders. The International Conference on Cyberlaw, Cybercrime & Cybersecurity has been supported by more than 87 international and national organizations.  These include UNESCO, ITU, UNU-EGOV in the UN Family, as also by Council of Europe, Europol Cybercrime Centre, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names & Numbers (ICANN), Internet Society, World Federation of Scientists, International Association of Prosecutors, Global Prosecutors E-Crime Network, Asia Cloud Computing Association and Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India.

51 distinct topics and subjects were covered in the International Conference on Cyberlaw, Cybercrime & Cybersecurity 2017.  Various sessions deliberated on different issues and aspects concerning subjects of cyberspace including Cyberlaw 2017 & Beyond, Cyber Security & Cyber Security Law – Emerging Trends & Challenges, Cybercrime – Latest Trends and Challenges, Electronic Evidence, Ransomware, Botnets and Distributed Denial of Service, Spam, Malware, Spyware and their regulations, Cyber Diplomacy, Cyber Sovereignty, Internet of Things, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Applicability of Blockchain for Banking and Finance etc.

The Conference deliberated and came up with the Outcome Document which highlighted the various specific outcomes of the Conference. The Outcome Document mandated various steps that need to be taken by the international and national stakeholders in order to further address legal, policy and regulatory issues concerning cyberspace.
