Satyajit Boolell SC
Satyajit Boolell SC, Director of Public Prosecutions, Mauritius
Mr. Satyajit Boolell was appointed Director of Public Prosecutions for Mauritius in February 2009 after a long career at the Attorney General Office where he had served as Assistant Solicitor General and Parliamentary Counsel respectively.
He was called to the Bar in England and Wales in 1985 and holds a Master’s Degree in law from King’s College London and a BA (Hons) Economics from the University of Essex.
Mr. Boolell was appointed Senior Counsel in 2010. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Prosecutors since 2011 and last year was elected Vice-President representing the African and Indian Ocean Regions.
MrBoolellis current chair of the Editorial Committee of the Mauritius Criminal Law Review and the committee on crime set up under the aegis of the Mauritius Law Reform Commission.
As Director of Public Prosecutions, MrBoolell heads an office constituted of some sixty Barristers and Solicitors. The Office of the DPP has its own cybercrime unit and is responsible at national level for prosecuting all cybercrime offences.
