G.S. Hegde, immediate past Principal Legal Adviser of Reserve Bank of India, (RBI)

Mr. G.S. Hegde, who is addressed as GS, retired as the Principal Legal Adviser of Reserve Bank of India, (RBI) in April this year.

 GS got his Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Karnatak University College of Law Dharwad, in the year 1974.  He did his Masters in Mercantile Law from the same university in 1976.  He studied Corporate Law, International Commercial Arbitration, Regulation of Financial Intermediaries, etc. for his LLM from Columbia University School of Law in the city of New York, in the year 1997.

 GS taught Company Law, Contract Law and Administrative Law from 1976 to 1979 in a law college.  He practiced in the High Court of Karnataka for about two years from 1979.  He served as a Law Officer in Syndicate Bank for three years from 1981 and joined RBI as a Legal Officer in the year 1984.  While in the service of RBI, he was on secondment to Tata America International Corporation in New York as a Corporate Counsel for two years during 2006-2007.

 He is presently on contract with RBI as Legal Consultant and is based in Mumbai.
