 Loknath Behera, Inspector General of Police, National Investigation Agency, Kerala

A 1985-batch IPS officer, Loknath Behera has been a recipient of President’s police medal for distinguished services. He is credited with successful investigations in a number of landmark cases, and has more recently led the team that questioned David Headley in the 26/11 Mumbai blasts of 2008.

Mr. Behera was felicitated by Ms. Latha Reddy, Dy NSA at the Awards ceremony of the DSCI Excellence Awards 2012. Mr. Behera has pioneered the field of cyber crime investigations and played a pivotal role in sensitizing the issue of cyber crime and raising awareness among law enforcement community through his leadership. He has been instrumental in police modernization at district, state and national levels since 1994, promoting use of IT for cyber crime investigations. He takes special interest in interactions and discussions on issues of cyber crime and forensics within and beyond his community.

At present, he is Inspector General of Police (Operations and Coordination), National Investigation Agency (NIA), Government of India, of which he is a founder member and is also heading Terror Financing and Fake Currency (TFFC) specialized cell of the NIA.

He has 25 years of experience in various facets of Policing such as Investigation of Crimes, Maintenance of Law & Order, Enforcement of Traffic Regulations, Security including VIP Security, Planning, Policy formulation, Counter Terrorism strategies, Project work, Resource Management at State, National & International level, IT application and Management. Loknath has been instrumental in the establishment of a state-of-the art Interrogation Centers in the CBI and is the main architect of the state-of-the art CBI Command Centre and Kerala Police Command Centre set up on the model of the FBI Command Centre in Washington, USA.
