Dr. Sanjay Bahl, Director General, Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In)
Sanjay Bahl, CISM, CIPP/IT, is currently with the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) and an adjunct faculty with IIIT Delhi. He has been providing consultancy in the area of governance, risk, compliance, security, privacy, forensics, investigation and fraud management to some national level projects in India.
Prior to CERT-In, he was the Chief Security Officer (CSO) for Microsoft Corporation (India) Pvt Ltd., where he was responsible for interaction with the government, academia, key strategic accounts and the CxO community with respect to Microsoft’s security strategy and helping in the public policy direction.
Prior to joining Microsoft, Sanjay was the global CSO of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) where he established an enterprise-wide converged security environment and effectively addressed risk management and security across the organization worldwide. Sanjay has also worked with academic and professional communities as well as government groups to enhance their awareness of comprehensive security models.
He has been in the IT industry since 1984 with experience in various areas. He was responsible for development of the Middle East operations for TCS as the Regional Manager, European Service Delivery Manager for 12 countries of Europe based out of UK and the Chief Information Officer for Hughes Telecom (India) Ltd on secondment from TCS. Prior to TCS, his previous experience has been with PT Infotimur Sistimatama, Jakarta, Indonesia and CMC Ltd, New Delhi, where he developed and executed large and complex software and turnkey projects, product evaluations, sales and marketing.
Sanjay is and has been a member of various Security committees at National and International level and has been the winner (from a list of global nominations) of the prestigious and coveted Alliance for Enterprise Security Risk Management’s second Annual Excellence in Security Convergence and Contribution to Enterprise Risk Management Award for 2007. He was also the winner of the Microsoft Security Strategist Award 2007 in the IT / ITeS and Telecom category in India, while at TCS.
