Dr. Tabrez Ahmad, Professor Cum Director, College of Law and Legal Studies, University of Petroleum & Energy Studies

Dr. Tabrez Ahmad received his doctorate in IPR and Cyber Law from Aligarh Muslim University. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in science, a Bachelor’s degree in law and a Master’s degree in Commercial Law and Cyber law.

Prior to his joining University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, COLS as a Professor & Associate Director he was the Professor and Director Alliance College of Law, Alliance University, Bangalore. Dr. Ahmad served as Professor of IPR and Cyber Law at the School of Law, KIIT University. At the KIIT University, he was the Academic Coordinator for the School of Law & Head- Department of Private Laws. He was also a mentor at IPR KIIT-Technology Business Incubator, National Science Technology Incubation Board (NSTEDB) & Depts. of Science Technology Govt. of India.

Dr. Tabrez was also the Founder Director, Durgapur Institute of Legal Studies (DILS), University of Burdwan, and the founding faculty of W.B. National University of juridical sciences Kolkata.

Dr. Ahmad was the visiting faculty and taught Cyber law & IPR in the Biju Pattanaik State Police Academy, Bhubaneswar, Orissa and Judicial Academy & State Institute of Public Administration & Rural Development (SIPARD) Govt. of Tripura. On invitation of BPRD (Bureau of Police Research Development) Govt. of India, he had the opportunity to train senior police officers in the areas of Cyber law and IPR. He is a prolific speaker and spoke at several occasions on the invitation of CII, ASSOCHAM, and BPRD. He has also practiced for a while at the bar of Delhi High Court and Supreme Court of India.

Dr. Ahmad has a rich & extensive experience in teaching, general administration, strategic and educational planning and student relations in the academic sector. A dedicated, resourceful and innovative instructor, Professor Ahmad helps students change marginal grades into good grades and extends unstinted support and guidance to his colleagues. Dr. Ahmad seeks to facilitate intellectual growth by creating an atmosphere of mutual respect & open communication for all. His excellent interpersonal skills, capability of resolving multiple & complex issues & motivating staff to peak performance, makes Professor Ahmad passionate to achieve academic and administrative excellence in Legal Education.

As an eminent researcher, he has authored a pioneering book entitled “Cyber Law, E-commerce and M-commerce”, and published more than 50 papers in national and international offline & online journals and also participated extensively in national/international seminars and conferences.

He is the member of various national and international associations including, Indian Law Institute, Internet Society, All India Law Teachers Congress, Indian Society of Victimology and All India Science Congress etc.

He is also on the editorial board and reviewer/referee of various national & International journals including, JIPR (Journal of Intellectual Property Rights), and JPL (Journal of Politics and Law) Canadian Center of Science and Education rtc.

Dr. Ahmad is a rare legal personality in India who in a very young age have played key roles in the foundation, development and designing the curriculum of various modern professional legal institutions of global standards like, National Law University of Juridical Sciences Kolkata, Law Colleges under Vidya Sagar University, DILS Burdwan University, KIIT Law School of KIIT University, Alliance Law School, of Alliance University and College of Legal Studies of University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) Dehradun, U.K, etc.

He has authored more than a thousand blogs on current issues of national and international importance. His few blogs like Technolexindia, IPlexindia, Energylex and Confrencelex are internationally recognized. As per the Newyork based Social Science Research Network (ssrn.com) current rankings he is rated as rank 119th out of Top 3000 Law Authors in the World.
